Hypnotherapy FAQs
- Q?Do you bulk bill?
-
No. This is a private practice. All fees are payable at the time of the therapy and must be settled in full at the conclusion of each session. Acceptable payments are cash or cheque.
- Q?Do you work with health insurance providers?
-
At this time I work on an entirely private basis, though it is hoped to add insurance providers in the near future.
- Q?Do you do home visits?
-
If requested I am happy to do home visits. Generally though, all consultations are conducted in my Armadale office. I will conduct a home visit where the patient is experiencing agoraphobia – fear of leaving the house and/or panic attacks on leaving or trying to leave the house. Other requests for home visits are treated on a case by case basis.
Please call me for a cost for a home visit. All home visits incur travelling expenses and an additional cost per hour.
- Q?I’m nervous about being alone and under hypnosis especially with a stranger, how do I know I’m safe?
-
I am vetted by the both the UK and Western Australian police. For your safety, and mine, and to allow me to improve my service, all therapy sessions are digitally recorded, encrypted and securely stored. Under the Data Protection Act 1998 you may request a copy of the session recordings at any time. These recordings can also be made available to a court of law under a warrant to produce if required. No one other than myself and the above exceptions has access to them. I keep all notes and patient information for a period of seven years.
- Q?I saw a hypnotist when I was on holiday and he made the people do silly things on stage, how do I know you won’t do that to me?
-
Firstly, I’m a therapist who uses hypnosis as a means of delivering the therapy. I’m not a stage hypnotist. I’m bound by the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BSCH) and AHA codes of conduct which forbid me to engage in hypnosis for the purposes of entertainment. Further, it would not be ethical to do such things, and of course I would have no desire to do so either – I have a hard-earned reputation to protect. You must also remember that when under hypnosis you will only do things that you want to do. I simply cannot make you do something that would be contrary to your own moral standards, nor would I wish to.
- Q?Will I lose control?
-
Absolutely not. You will be given an instruction at the beginning of the session that should you wish to terminate the session you may do so at any time simply by opening your eyes.
- Q?Can anyone be hypnotised?
-
Yes. Anyone can be hypnotised provided the patient is willing to engage in the process and approaches it with an open mind. Some patients may take a little longer than others to achieve a suitable depth of hypnosis, but generally speaking with a little instruction and practice everyone should be able to experience the relaxing feeling of hypnosis.
